Lipsi Bike Tour: The Perfect Summer Day Around the Island

Once you have your bike, you are ready to set off and explore the island at your own pace – with plenty of time for swimming, good food and beautiful sunset stops along the way.

Is Lipsi Safe for Cycling?

The roads around Lipsi are particularly pleasant for cycling. The asphalt is relatively new, the roads are generally wide for a Greek island and many sections offer good visibility & views. Traffic is usually light, so it is not unusual to cycle for quite some time without encountering another vehicle.

Here is our suggested route for discovering Lipsi on two wheels:

Panagia of Haros & Nearby Beaches

Pick up your rental bicycle in Lipsi Town and set off in the morning. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a swimsuit — because on Lipsi, you will probably want to stop for a swim more than once.

Your first stop can be Panagia of Haros, the island’s most famous church and one of its most beautiful landmarks. The church is an important part of Lipsi’s identity and makes a lovely first stop before continuing towards the quieter beaches.

From here, you have two options for your next swim.

 

Option 1: Limni Beach

For a relaxed beach stop, head towards Limni Beach, a quiet, sandy little bay where the atmosphere is serene.

The beach also has Apnée Beach Bar – Restaurant, where sunbeds and loungers are available for those who want to spend a few hours by the water in comfort.

The ride to Limni can also turn into a small countryside adventure. Along the way, you may come across some of Lipsi’s famously friendly goats – and they can be surprisingly interested in making new friends.

 

 

If you are interested in local produce, another worthwhile stop along the way is Dimitris Farm and Vineyard, a 100% organic farm where you can pick up fresh cherry tomatoes and other seasonal products. It is the kind of spontaneous stop that makes cycling around a Greek island so enjoyable.

 

Option 2: Chochlakoura Beach

Alternatively, continue towards Chochlakoura, a quiet & unspoiled beach with beautiful white pebbles.

The contrast between the bright white stones and the sea creates an incredibly vivid blue colour, making this one of the most photogenic swimming spots on the island. It is a great choice if you are looking for a peaceful atmosphere and crystal-clear water.

Whichever beach you choose, take your time. This is not a day for rushing from one place to another.

Lunch and a Swim at Katsadia Beach

Later in the day, make your way towards Katsadia Beach, one of the best places to combine a swim with something delicious to eat.

Jump into the water, cool off, then settle down for lunch or a refreshing break.

And if you visit Dilaila Bar, make sure to try their watermelon salad. It is exactly the kind of dish you want on a hot Greek summer day – fresh, light and incredibly refreshing.

After lunch, enjoy one more swim before getting back on your bike.

 

 

 

Platys Gialos: Save It for the Afternoon

Rather than visiting Platys Gialos in the middle of the day, we recommend saving it for later in the afternoon.

The reason is simple: this is the most popular beach on Lipsi, and it can get noticeably busier around midday. Arriving early in the morning or later in the afternoon makes for a much more enjoyable experience.

And the sea here is the real star. The waters of Platys Gialos are among the most beautiful on the island – an almost unreal combination of pale turquoise and milky blue that makes the beach instantly memorable.

If you feel like taking a break, Platis Gialos restaurant is a great place to stop for a coffee, a refreshing drink or a meal. There are options to suit different tastes, making it easy to linger a little longer and enjoy the beach before continuing your ride.

 

 

Finish at Moschato Harbour for Sunset

From Platys Gialos, continue by bicycle towards the little harbour of Moschato.

It is only a short ride, but the scenery changes completely. Moschato is a tiny, picturesque harbour with just a few boats moored by the pier. It is not really a swimming stop – and that is precisely why it works so well as the final stop of the day.

Time your arrival for sunset.

The sun sets directly in front of the pier, creating one of the most beautiful sunset views on Lipsi. With the small boats in the water and the quiet atmosphere of the harbour, it is an especially peaceful place to end a day spent exploring the island.

 

 

! A Note About Cycling on Lipsi

There is one important thing to know before setting off.

Rental bicycles are not allowed on dirt roads. Rental companies can locate bicycles through their tracking systems, and ignoring this rule can result in additional charges.

This is particularly important if you are hoping to explore some of Lipsi’s more remote beaches.

For Kamares Beach and Monodendri Beach, for example, you should leave the bicycle where the asphalt road ends and continue on foot. The walk takes approximately 15 minutes to Kamares and around 25 minutes to Monodendri.

 

The beauty of exploring Lipsi by bicycle is that the journey itself becomes part of the experience. Start early, take your time, stop whenever you see somewhere tempting, swim whenever the heat gets too much and leave the most popular beach for the softer afternoon light.

And remember! You never really need to be in a hurry.
